FINAL DESIGN

Brainstorm
and Design
-
We brainstormed ideas and decided to make a moisture detector for plants.
-
We decided on a three LED design.
-
We drew a state diagram modeling how our device would respond to different levels of moisture.
-
We added a Potentiometer to allow the user to input the optimum level of moisture for their plant, so our device could be used for a wide variety of plants.
-
We made a list of materials and ordered them.

Research
We went to a plant nursery to ask experts about different moisture levels and soil. They helped us create our three plant categories: dry plants are watered every 2 weeks. Medium plants are watered once a week. Wet plants are watered every 2-3 days.

Building and Testing
-
We built our circuit, first on TinkerCAD, and then in real life.
-
We wrote the code
-
We calibrated the sensor
-
We didn’t have a lot of problems integrating hardware and software because we simulated the three cases (dry, good, and overwatered) on the computer to make sure the switch case in the code worked before attaching hardware.
Final Demonstration
In this clip we show a small desmostration of how our circuit ended up working.
